Please call us to find out more about these discounted rates. School Packages Available to Schools by Reservation Only War Eagle Cavern presents a truly unique educational experience. Our guides do an excellent job of keeping youngster's attention, spinning many “yarns” about the history of the cavern, explaining the many dripping formations (Yes, they will see bats!), and explaining the Karst landscape of the Ozark mountains - see the TOURS page of this site. Our group package includes GEMSTONE PANNING at our water sluice at the War Eagle Mining Company. Each person is given a bag of "dirt", laced with semi-precious gemstones gathered from around the world. Child and adult alike will be thrilled when they find rubies, emeralds, sapphires, pyrite, etc. as they work the pans, just like mining in the creek beds and hillsides of Colorado. One of our staff will be on hand at the sluice to make sure everyone gets a great selection of stones to take home. The leader of the group will be provided with a card showing the different gemstones and telling where they are mined. Our group package also includes the great HUNT FOR CHIEF WAR EAGLE'S TREASURE - a fun way for everyone to explore our woods. Signs and maps will point out interesting fauna, trees, outlooks and activities along the trails, culminating in finding the treasure, and getting a souvenir prize for everyone. We are proud of our very unique trading post, offering many interesting souvenirs and snack items. We stock up on low-priced souvenirs and snacks, and work with the students in selecting just the right item. We feel that a child spending a few dollars on his own is a very important learning experience - and we even waive sales tax to keep things simple for the younger students. Elementary The package includes the cavern tour, the treasure hunt/nature walk, and a small bag gemstone mix for mining at our water sluice. Middle/High School This package offers the cavern tour, nature walk/fish feeding at the lake, and a small bag gemstone mix (treasure hunt is available if desired). There is no cost for one chaperone for every ten students (tour only, gem pan mix available at regular prices); however, we do ask that they work with us in keeping control of their respective groups at all times. Due to group size restrictions in the cavern, we must ask that adults be limited to one adult per 10 students only.
